Season's Greetings from the Exotic Caulerpa Team

As the year draws to a close, we want to express our sincere appreciation for the collective efforts of everyone involved in the important work to find, understand and manage exotic caulerpa.

Your commitment to protecting our marine environment has made a real difference in the fight against this invasive seaweed.

This holiday season, if you’re heading out on the water, please check your anchors and gear for any signs of caulerpa before moving location. If you find attached seaweed, contain it securely and dispose of it on land.

Please report any suspected sightings of exotic caulerpa to 0800 80 99 66 or by email to the team - caulerpa@mpi.govt.nz. Take photos and note the location if possible.

Every action counts in keeping our coastlines healthy. You can find full information here including the Controlled Area Notice rules, how to identify and report exotic caulerpa, and how to avoid spreading it.

You may see our exotic caulerpa ambassadors out and about in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, and the Bay of Plenty. They'll be on the water and in the communities — sharing information and answering questions. And we have a marketing campaign running on various digital and social media channels over the summer.

Thank you for being part of this shared mission. Wishing you safe adventures, vibrant ecosystems, and a wonderful start to the new year.
